Syracuse in Top Two for New York DT
If Leon Williams is the shoe-in for top prospect honors in New York State this year,
then Craig Akins is the shoe-in for #2.
When you're 6'6 and weigh 295 pounds people tend to notice you, and Craig Akins realizes
this. In fact, he lists his size as one of his strengths as a football
player along with his quickness off the line.
Syracuse, Michigan
State, Pittsburgh, Indiana & UConn (all offered) are among those who have taken
notice. Maryland, Boston College, Wake Forest are among the other schools
very interested in the talented Mr. Akins, who has a GPA in the 3.0 range
and a passing score on the ACT.
He's already visited Syracuse (3 times/co-leader),
Pittsburgh (twice/co-leader) and Ohio State with a visit to Michigan
State in the works. He plans to camp with both Pittsburgh and Syracuse
in June and make his final decision prior to his senior year.
Craig
says he's looking for a "class football program" and a school within 4-5 hours
of home that will allow him to pursue a career in law enforcement. He
says he likes the coaching staffs at both Pittsburgh and Syracuse so expect those
two schools to engage in a tug of war for the talents of Mr. Akins this summer.
