Howard First to Choose Orange
And this time we didn't have to wait until November
The Pittsburgh Area is loaded with talent this year and one of the best is McKeesport
QB Cecil Howard, who yesterday called Coach Paul Pasqualoni and committed
to the Syracuse Football Team.
Howard, who has good size at 6-foot-3,
185 pounds and runs a 4.5 in the forty yard dash, represents a major coup for
the Orange who have struck out on such top quarterback targets as Michael Vick,
Brian St. Pierre, Rod Rutherford, Latrez Harrison, C.J. Leak and Carlyle Holiday
in the past three years.
Howard is the top running quarterback in
the northeast region this year and had scholarship offers from Penn State, Pittsburgh,
Boston College, Kentucky, West Virginia & Indiana.
Howard
rushed for 1,946 yards and 22 touchdowns as a junior, averaging 8.9 yards per carry
and threw for 9 more scores.
He was named the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's
Player of the Year for the area after his junior year over such talents
as West Virginia signee Michael Vernillo, Connellsville 2,000 yard rusher Marcus
Furman & Tyrone tailback Jesse Jones.
